*In the name of ALLAAH, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.*
*WHAT IS THE MEANING OF TAWHEED?*
"Tawheed is to single out ALLAAH with all worship" meaning that you worship ALLAAH alone, and do not worship anything along with HIM: You do not worship any Prophet sent by HIM, nor any of the creation. Rather you single HIM out with all worship, out of love, veneration, longing and awe.
Thus tawheed is of three types:
1. Tawheed of ALLAAH'S Lordship (Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah)
2. Tawheed of Worship (Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah)
3. Tawheed of ALLAAH'S Names and Attributes (Tawheed al-Asmaa was-Sifaat)
*1. Tawheed of ALLAAH'S Lordship (Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah)* which is: 'That ALLAAH, the one free of all imperfections and the Most High, is singled out with creation, sovereignty and control of the affairs. HE is the sole lord of the universe and its inhabitants without any real challenge to HIS sovereignty'. ALLAAH (SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA) says:
*"ALLAAH is the creator of everything." [Surah az-Zumar 39:62]*
*"Is there any creator besides ALLAAH, providing you with provision from the heavens (rain) and the earth (its produce)?! Therefore do not worship anything besides HIM, but worship HIM alone since there is nothing that has the power to harm or benefit you besides HIM." [Surah Faatir 35:3]*
*"And no calamity strikes except by ALLAAH'S permission" [Surah At-taghabun 64:11]*
Since ALLAAH (SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA) is the Creator of all things and the only real power in existence, it is HE who gave all things the power to move and to change. Nothing happens in creation except what HE allows to happen. In recognition of this reality, the Prophet (SALLALLAAHU ALAYHI WA SALLAM) used to often repeat the exclamatory phrase, "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah." (There is no might nor power except by ALLAAH's Will)
